QUENCHING MEDIA INTRODUCTION

toi ong thep The metallurgical properties of steel components that have been heat treated are primarily dependent upon the austenitizing conditions and the quenching process used.

Modern Heat Treatment processes are forever making new demands on quenching fluids and PETROFER’s extensive development programmes ensure that our product technology is more than capable of meeting these new requirements. These programmes are designed not only to improve the technical properties of our quenchants but also to provide economic and environmental benefits.

We are constantly screening new raw materials for use in quenchants and our existing product range is reviewed continually to ensure that the best available technology is used.

By using this approach, and testing new products not only in our own laboratory heat treatment facility but also in collaboration with heat treatment equipment manufacturers, we can offer you the most comprehensive range of quenchants available today:

  • Accelerated quenching oils
  • Biodegradable quenching fluids
  • Hot quenching oils
  • Vacuum quenching oils
  • Water-based non-flammable polymer quenchants
  • Molten salts.

By having our own extensive development facilities and a complete range of products we can ensure that the best solution for your needs is achieved.

Many factors are important in choosing the most suitable quenchant:

  • hardenability of steel
  • component geometry ( size, shape etc.)
  • metallurgical properties required
  • furnace equipment
  • operator safety
  • post-treatment
  • environmental issues.

As many variables often have to be considered, it is important that a comprehensive knowledge of the quenchant is available i.e.

  • physical and chemical data
  • quenching properties
  • resistance to evaporation
  • thermal and ageing stability
  • physiological and ecological properties.

Please inform about our Products:

ACCELERATED QUENCHING OILS
ISOMAX

Low viscosity accelerated quenching oils with very fast quenching properties. These oils are preferably used in open baths for hardening low alloy and plain steels. Maximum penetration and/or through hardening can be achieved even with large components.

ACCELERATED QUENCHING OILS
ISORAPID FASTQUENCH

Accelerated quenching oils with very good evaporation stability and fast quenching properties. These oils have been specially designed for application in sealed quench furnaces. They ensure rapid and homogeneous cooling of all parts during batch quenching and also rapid decay of the vapour blanket within the batch. Their application in open quench baths reduces smoke and flame formation significantly.

HOT QUENCHING OILS
MARQUENCH

Accelerated hot quenching oils with high ageing stability for a wide range of applications. They set new standards with respect to distortion control, quenching speed and service life. The oils of this product range are typically used for quenching automotive gear parts which are sensitive to distortion as well as for hot quenching of larger components.

QUENCHING OILS FOR VACUUM FURNACES
VACUQUENCH

Quenching oils which have exceptionally high resistance to evaporation, a high degree of purity, low gas absorption capacity and rapid degassing capacity for application in vacuum furnaces. Due to their different cooling characteristics, the various products in this range ensure optimum results for all kinds of steels in vacuum heat-treatment.

BIODEGRADABLE (mineral oil free) QUENCHING FLUIDS
SYNTHERM

Quenching fluids based on synthetic and/or natural raw materials. Despite their low viscosities, these products have extremely high flash points and thereby ensure minimum evaporation during quenching. Products in the SYNTHERM range are available with extremely fast quench rates.

WATER-MISCIBLE POLYMER QUENCHING FLUIDS
AQUATENSID AQUACOOL

Quenching fluids for tank quenching of low hardenability and plain carbon steels which do not achieve the required hardness with oil quenching but which are prone to cracking with water quenching. They are also applied in induction and flame-hardening processes. Fluids in this product range are also used for quenching aluminium alloy components after solution annealing.

WATER-MISCIBLE POLYMER QUENCHING FLUIDS
FEROQUENCH

The FEROQUENCH group of products provides oil-like cooling characteristics. Workpieces from alloyed high hardenability materials are quenched without cracking and with extremely low distortion. Flame and smoke formation are avoided during quenching with FERQUENCH.

MARQUENCHING BATHS
AS

Nitrite-free and nitrite-containing salt baths for quenching and isothermal heat-treatment in the bainitic region. The products are also used for solution annealing of light alloys.

MARQUENCHING BATHS
GS

Marquenching baths for quenching and annealing of high speed steels and tool steels.

HIGH TEMPERATURE SALT BATHS
HS

Salt baths for austenitizing of construction, case-hardening and tempering steels; also used for pre-heating stages for hardening of high-speed steels.

HIGH TEMPERATURE SALT BATHS
SINOXAL

Salts for treating high-speed steels at elevated temperatures, providing particular protection against decarburization.

CARBURIZING AND NITRIDING BATHS
CARBOGEN

Stable one and two-salt carburizing baths, particularly easy to operate and extremely economical.

CARBURIZING AND NITRIDING BATHS
NITROGEN

Bath nitriding of tool steels and construction steels.
